Purpose

This policy outlines the ethical framework that Peterborough-Nogojiwanong Pride (PTBO-NOGO Pride) uses when evaluating and accepting sponsorships.

PTBO-NOGO Pride is a program of the Rainbow Service Organization. PTBO-NOGO Pride is committed to equality and anti-oppression principles, including ensuring that all partnerships and sponsorships align with Our Mission and Our Values, outlined below.

Additionally, as part of PTBO-NOGO Pride’s commitment to anti-oppression and inclusivity, we will work to address and denounce oppression in all of its forms, including but not limited to sexism, ableism, classism, racism, genocide, and warmongering.

Our Mission

PTBO-NOGO Pride exists to support and celebrate all 2SLGBTQIA+ people, honour and give thanks to those who have come before us, and to contribute to the resilient spirit and courage of the present struggle for the human rights of all.

We promote a justice-seeking future through education and advocacy so that all may participate fully in the life and work of Nogojiwanong, the City of Peterborough, the surrounding area, and around the world, with safety, dignity, and respect.

Our Values

Values we believe in:

1. Treating all individuals with respect and dignity;
2. Being volunteer-driven and recognizing the value and the contribution of all;
3. Transparency and accountability for our actions, including those with whom we have chosen to partner or accept funding from;
4. A commitment to anti-oppression principles and practices;
5. Promoting diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility for all; and
6. Celebrating and uplifting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community!

Evaluation Criteria

All sponsorship opportunities will be assessed before acceptance of funds or partnership. The following criteria, in no particular order, will be used to review each sponsorship or partnership:

1. Alignment with Our Mission and Our Values:
   1. Does the potential sponsor celebrate and support 2SLGBTQIA+ rights within their organization and the community?
   2. Has this sponsor participated in harm towards the community and not taken meaningful steps to improve and make amends?
2. Ethical Business Practices
   1. Does this potential sponsor have a history of ethical labour practices, accountability, and environmental sustainability?
   2. Has this sponsor participated in union-busting, discrimination, or environmental harm without meaningful change occurring?
3. Community Impact
   1. Would accepting this sponsorship cause harm to members of our community or their loved ones?
4. Sponsorships will not be accepted from organizations that actively and knowingly participate directly or indirectly (via profiting from or supporting) in the following:
   1. Funding Genocide
   2. Arms Manufacturing
   3. Destruction of the Environment
   4. Human Rights Violations

Right to Refuse or Revoke Sponsorship

PTBO-NOGO Pride reserves the right to refuse sponsorship offers or cancel existing sponsorships and/or partnerships, where we feel the relationship, or the actions of the sponsor, are not in keeping with our mission, our values, and/or any other elements of this policy.

Transparency and Review

All sponsorships and partnerships are subject to review by the Central Pride committee. This policy will be reviewed every year by the committee. Any changes or updates to the policy will be made publicly available within a month of completing and adopting the new policy.

A full list of sponsors will be maintained on our website and will be updated as needed. We will communicate our commitment to this policy to the organization’s stakeholders.

Sponsors will not have any input into operational matters or decisions relating to any project they have sponsored.

Campaigns and Support for Causes

PTBO-NOGO Pride may choose to align ourselves with and/or commit to specific campaigns, solidarity movements, or efforts, locally or internationally, that reflect our mission and values.

Our critique of any government that has oppressive policies, or potential sponsors who support the actions of such a government, does not equate to a lack of support for the people who may be subject to that government.

Current movements/campaigns/boycotts that PTBO-NOGO Pride has officially signed/supports at this time include:

• Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Campaign to End the Genocide in Gaza:
  • • In partnership with the Palestine Solidarity Pride Campaign and in keeping with the guidelines put forth by the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) National Committee, we have elected to sign and adhere to the Palestine Solidarity Pledge (“PSP”). Refer to the Pledge Explainer section of the PSP Pledge document HERE for additional information and clarification.

  Community Feedback

  We are accountable to Nogojiwanong, the City of Peterborough, and the surrounding area. We welcome any feedback about this sponsorship policy or any sponsorships or partnerships that we have accepted.
